Therapy for First Responders & Veterans
First responders and veterans have but themselves in harm’s way to save others, but this came at a cost for many. Countless first responders and veterans experience psychological damage as a result of the traumatic experiences and hardships that they may have endured in their service.
Many first responders and veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. The PTSD can cause a number of symptoms including suicidal thoughts, depression, intense flashbacks, and poor sleep. Working with a mental health professional who specializes in trauma may be beneficial to those experiencing PTSD. Some treatments for these patients include cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and medications such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications.
